The Po is the longest river in Italy, flowing across the northern part of the country from west to east. It rises in the Alps, before travelling over four hundred miles to the Adriatic Sea and discharging near the iconic city of Venice. Water from the river helps to power the hydroelectric stations and cool the power stations that serve places such as Milan and Turin, whilst the flooding of the Po means crops such as wheat and rice can be grown in farms along its banks.

Your Po river cruise will also include lots of time in the beautiful floating city of Venice. Known as La Serenissima to the locals, the city offers romance, history, culture and is undoubtedly best seen from the water. Your tour will take you to places such as the Piazza San Marco, Marco Polo’s house, the Grand Canal and the Rialto Bridge. You may also get the option to take a day trip to other towns and cities in the area like Verona, Chioggia and Ravenna.

Along the river itself, the most popular port of call is Polesella. From here, you can easily transfer to Bologna for some authentic Bolognese or simply explore this quaint commune that was once the scene of a bloody battle during the Italian wars of the 16th century.
