P&O Cruises' Food Heroes at Sea

Written By:
July 30, 2019

Our stomach can lead us to some of the best foodie destinations around the world, and many cruisers choose to sail on specific ships just for their dining venues. But, as with everything in the modern era, customer expectations are ever-rising and cruise lines are investing more and more into bringing new celebrity chefs on board.

So, whether you are looking for that quirky venue that fits your every need or a classic super club in which to enjoy some fabulous entertainment with your food, P&O Cruises’ Food Heroes will give your taste buds a treat.

WHO ARE P&O CRUISES FOOD HEROES?

P&O Cruises’ food heroes will be joining a number of future sailings, meaning there is even more reason to get excited towards the end of 2019. Marco Pierre White, Olly Smith and Eric Lanlard are all renowned chefs in their respected sectors and, with half a dozen specific culinary cruises starting next month, this is the perfect opportunity to meet your cooking icons and taste some delicious cuisine.

Marco is known for being the first British chef to be awarded three Michelin stars and shares his passion in his own Cookery Club on board Britannia. His exquisite dishes are just a small part of his talent, as he also hosts authentic foodie experiences ashore, taking guests to a local market and hand-picking the best ingredients to serve during an unforgettable evening.

Olly Smith is somewhat of a culinary connoisseur, but where his heart truly lies is with the world of wine. Helping guests choose that perfect dish and wine combo is what The Glass House restaurant is all about. Whether you are looking for an unorthodox dish or some advice on the best tipples, Olly will be on-hand to provide his insight.

Finally, Eric Lanlard is a master pâtissier and has earned himself a reputation for his baked delights. Hosting many afternoon teas and other eventful evenings, including his masterclasses, Eric takes his guests on a journey to the perfect pastry. Travel to some of the world’s most exciting hubs for baking and experience the magic of cruising too.

WHERE ARE THEY SAILING?

Six sailings have already been announced by P&O Cruises. Marco will feature on three of these, with the first being a 14-night sailing onboard Brittania that departs on 17th August 2019 for the sunny coasts of the Mediterranean, visiting iconic ports like Barcelona, Monte Carlo and Florence/Pisa. The second sets sail on 7th September 2019 and follows a similar route to the first but, instead of visiting Monte Carlo, you will head to the capital of Italy, Rome.

Lastly, the 23rd September 2019 sailing heads towards the stunning Canary Islands and Spain. Along the way, you can soak-up jaw-dropping views and exotic dishes before returning to Southampton.

Olly also has two sailings. He will spend seven nights in the snow-capped peaks of the Norwegian Fjords, guiding guests through stunning local villages and exploring a brand new world of cuisine. His other sailing spends 13 nights on the sun-kissed beaches of the Canary Islands, before heading to the home of great wine, Porto.

Eric features on just one sailing around the glacial fjords of Norway, creating unforgettable memories for guests and exposing them to the best tips and tricks for that perfect pastry.

Recently, Chris Mayhew who is part of the team at GoCruise head office had the chance to experience what P&O Cruises’ new dining options on board forthcoming ship Iona would entail. He spent the afternoon with new Local Food Hero Jose Pizarro to learn about the delicious jamón ibérico.
