Is there a cruise to suit your star sign? - March 2017

Written By:

Don’t know where you want to cruise?

Want to make sure you pick an itinerary that suits all parties?

What about using the pseudoscience of astrology to narrow down your options?

Where will your star sign take you?

Pisces

Pisces – Pisceans love escapism. They are dreamy by nature and love beautiful, exotic destinations where they can sink back into tranquillity and day dream the time away. A Paul Gaugin cruise would fit the bill perfectly! What about a luxurious South Seas cruise on a Bali to Fiji itinerary taking in Indonesian and Solomon islands ports of call, the relatively undiscovered Lombok Island, great snorkelling and diving, as well as plenty of World War II relics. All in the company of guest speakers across a wide genre of interests. (17 nights, 7th June 2017).

Lombok
Aries

Aries – Ariens are independent and energetic. They are constantly on the go (even on holiday), always wanting to visit new places and experience the next adventure. To keep them happy why not try a river cruise on the Irrawaddy river. With Riviera Travel this trip includes hotel stays, 2 nights in an overwater stilted bungalow and 4 nights on a river ship, as well as visits to Yangon, Mandalay and Buddhist monuments. (11 nights, 8th October 2017).

Irrawaddy River
Cancer

Cancer – those born under this star sign like to show off their nurturing side by taking care of everyone. What could be better than a family holiday on board one of the many family friendly cruise lines? Royal Caribbean’s resort style ships cater completely for such multi generational occasions where no one need fall out as there is something to appeal to everyone!! Take in the autumn colours as well as Two70, the Seaplex, robotic bartenders, Ripcord and North Star on Royal Caribbean’s Quantum Class ship Anthem of the Seas sailing from New York to Canada and back (9 nights, 28th September 2017).

New York
Aquarius

Aquarius – this air sign is independent and single-minded. Holiday wise this could mean repeat visits to a favourite place or something new and off the beaten track. Kill two birds with one stone on a Hurtigruten Northern Lights cruise. The cruise line says you should visit Norway in each of the 4 seasons (repeat visits) and in winter you have the best chance of seeing the Northern Lights (something new). Hurtigruten offer Arctic Highlights cruises of 5 or 6 night duration where you can also try husky dog sledding, snowmobile safaris and evening snowshoe trips (selected dates February 2018).

Arctic Northern Lights
taurus

Taurus – although Taureans are known for being warm hearted and loving, they are also self-indulgent and there’s no better time to do that than on vacation. Go all out for luxury. A Tauck experience should tick all your boxes with their attention to the smallest detail and provision of exclusive experiences. New for 2018, Tauck are offering a river cruise on the Danube with 3 nights pre and post cruise in Berlin and Krakow respectively (13 nights, 27th June 2018).

Krakow
Gemini

Gemini – people born under this star sign are known for being adaptable and thriving in new situations. However this can mean they bore easily and so will need to be kept entertained on holiday!! Go for cruises with lots of port days (like MSC) and not many days at sea. Alternatively, try Regent Seven Seas with their enormous choice of included shore excursions. Regent Seven Seas Voyager sails from Venice to Barcelona with a choice of 58 shore excursions and 9 ports of call and offers guest lectures through their Smithsonian Journeys programme as well as a list of suggested pre cruise reading (10 nights, 8th July 2017).

Venice
Leo

Leo – Leos are known for their fiery energy and flair for the dramatic and love to be where the action is - be it the biggest party, the most fun, or the best setting. An Alaskan cruise would be ideal for them. With jaw dropping rugged coastlines, immense glaciers, whale watching and iconic Pacific cities, along with pre and post cruise options including trips on the Rocky Mountaineer and stays in lodges in the wilderness of the National Parks. Disney sails Alaskan fjord round trips from Vancouver so you can also be in the midst of the Disney Wonder non stop party action whilst on board, with plenty of adult only areas too! (21st August 2017, 7 nights).

Alaska
Virgo

Virgo – Virgos love a detailed itinerary and will research all the best restaurants, markets, and coffee shops before they go. They like educational experiences so what could be better than a Scenic river cruise. You can take part in organised excursions or do your own thing – be it finding that special coffee shop ashore or biking beside the river on one of the ships e-bikes. Scenic Sapphire, sailing itineraries on the waterways of France, also boasts the new Scenic Culinaire concept – an on board cookery school where you can fully immerse yourself in the culinary wonders of the Rhone or Bordeaux regions both ashore and on the ship (7 nights, 12th September 2018, Lyon to Marseille, Idyllic Rhone).

Marseille
Libra

Libra – Librans love tranquillity, as well as a penchant for romance and charm. The perfect vacations for Libras include itineraries that balance peace and variety, so what better than a Caribbean cruise? Here you have peaceful, romantic days at sea or lying on a beach at one of the cruise lines private islands, tempered with a spot of diving or snorkelling, zipwiring through tropical rain forests or shopping until you drop in the duty free ports of call. Fly straight into Barbados and your ship for a P&O Caribbean cruise (14 nights, 10th November 2017).

Caribbean
Scorpio

Scorpio – Scorpios are reputed to be very intense, so to truly unwind, they need to unplug to recharge. While Scorpios love the chance to commune with nature, they may not want to rough it – so off the grid, but comfortable!! A ‘soft adventure’ trip to Antarctica with Seabourn would tick all their boxes. The Seabourn Ventures programme utilises ships like Seabourn Quest (with an ice strengthened hull) and zodiacs for small group landings in remote places like Antarctica and Patagonia where there is tight control on the number of people allowed to land at any one time. The itineraries are necessarily vague, so that ad hoc opportunities for wildlife sightings from the ship and on shore can be taken. Shore excursions and parkas are included in the cost, but so too are the many on board amenities of an all inclusive, luxury cruise ship (21 nights, 13th January 2018).

Antarctica
Sagittarius

Sagittarius – people born under this star sign like to seek the new and the now, under-the-radar, untouched destinations. So what about sailing to Madagascar – to see the lemurs, the National Parks with the flowers and exotic trees, the colonial architecture and much more? Madagascar is a similar size to France, but most cruises only stop at one port of call. This Fred Olsen cruise stops at 3 or 4 ports, for a more in depth experience (16 nights, 16th & 30th November 2017).

Madagascar
Capricorn

Capricorn – Capricorns are reserved, but love having people around. They don’t do’ solo’, but are happy to chill. So perhaps a world cruise or several long sectors or a world cruise would suit them. World cruises can have up to 6 or 7 consecutive days at sea, so an ability to amuse yourself or be amused or content with your surroundings is a must. Although world cruises typically set sail in January (and chase the sun to the Antipodes), other longer voyages may sail round the Northern Hemisphere, South America, North & Central America or Africa and not necessarily at the start of the year. Cunard offer the classical world cruise (120 nights, 10th January 2018).
