With the UNESCO-listed waterfront as its backdrop, Liverpool cruise port is as important today as it has been throughout history. The city played a major role in maritime activity during the 18th and 19th centuries, contributing to the development of modern dock technology and port management. Nowadays, the Albert Dock and St George’s Plateau are the first things you see before setting off on a transatlantic cruise, round-Britain itinerary or a trip into the Arctic.
Work is currently taking place to build a second cruise terminal, enabling cruises from Liverpool to include the world’s largest ships. The new development will rejuvenate the derelict Princes Jetty, creating a building with two floors that can cope with up to 3,600 passengers embarking and disembarking. It is hoped that construction will be complete some time in 2022.
