World’s largest cruise ship begins maiden season - April 2018

GoCruise – 09/04/18 - Royal Caribbean - Symphony of the Seas

Weighing in at 228,081 gross tonnes and measuring a total length of 362.1 metres, Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas has becoming the largest cruise ship in the world. After spending the last year or so under wraps, this behemoth vessel was finally unveiled to the world and began operating itineraries on the 31st March 2018 in the Mediterranean. She will positioned here, operating sailings out of Barcelona, until October, when she will operate a transitional sailing to Florida. After this, she will operate Caribbean cruises throughout the autumn and winter months.

Symphony of the Seas

Of course, this new build would not be a Royal Caribbean vessel if she weren’t fitted with the latest contemporary amenities, luxurious staterooms and gourmet dining venues. During sailings, 2,200 crew members will cater for a maximum capacity of 6,680 passengers, which means, at any one time, nearly 9,000 people could be enjoying the facilities on board this incredible floating resort.

During these sailings in the Mediterranean, it is reported that a large number of people actually never leave the comforts of the ship. Of course, with so much to see and do on board the ship, why would you want to be anywhere else? In addition to popular amenities that have featured on other ships including mini golf, rock-climbing walls, flowrider surfing simulators, and the Central Park outdoor garden; there is many more new activities to enjoy on board.

Symphony of the Seas

Making its debut for Royal Caribbean is the brightly-coloured ‘Battle for Planet Z’ laser tag arena, which is not only a first for the line but also the largest of its kind at sea. In addition to this, many features that made their debut on board Harmony of the Seas will return, including the Abyss slide – which is bigger and better than ever before. Also returning will be the robotic bartenders of the Bionic Bar and the colourful waterslides.

After a busy day on board the ship, you will certainly appreciate the range of dining options available. In addition to crowd-pleasing favourites including the Windjammer buffet; the weird and wonderful Wonderland; and sushi specialist, Izumi; there are many new venues to look out for. These include Hooked Seafood – Royal Caribbean’s first seafood specialist venue; El Loco Fresh – where diners can create their own tacos; and the Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade – where you can meet up with friends and watch the latest sports events or play fun arcade games. There is also Sugar Beach, where visitors can choose from an expansive range of sweet treats.

Symphony of the Seas

Royal Caribbean has always been known for providing some of the most spacious and comfortable staterooms in the industry. If you are willing to splash out, however, you can enjoy the comforts of one of the impressive new options available. The Ultimate Family Suite is the place that your kids will want to be, with two tiers of fun. In addition to private sleeping areas, the stateroom comes complete with a living room area, air hockey table, TV area and even a slide between the two floors.
