P&O Britannia - Ship Review - March 2015

Flavia Gray – 16-03-2015 – P&O Cruises - Britannia

Britannia, in case you have been on another planet for the last few months, is the latest edition to the P&O Cruises fleet. With Her Majesty the Queen as the ship’s Godmother and a union jack on its hull, the message P&O Cruises are trying to get across to cruisers is clear. But apart from being ‘British’ what else has the largest cruise ship ever built for the UK market got to offer?

The moment you enter the ship’s atrium the changes are clear. Style with a modern classic twist. The stunning black and glass bar on one side and delicious pastries and cakes by Food Hero, Eric Lanlard on the other compliments the stunning, almost floor to ceiling, chandelier perfectly.

The furnishings are contemporary and classy, a welcome change from the homely traditionalist décor of Britannia’s predecessors. Just off the atrium is The Limelight Club, a speciality dining and entertainment venue. Modelled on the famous Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club in London, this is sure to be a very popular venue with all age groups.

The Glasshouse has been placed on deck 7 overlooking the atrium which gives it the feeling of being in the heart of the ship. With the added element of modern and stylish furnishings, P&O Cruises really have created an inviting space for people to enjoy a glass of Ollie Smith’s recommended wines.

With the visit being less than 24 hours, there was just enough time to squeeze in a delicious dinner from the Marco Pierre White menu, which consisted of asparagus with poached egg; followed by my all-time favourite, lobster tail.

One thing that did strike me as being unusual was the amount of room in the shower. There seemed to be a lot more of it. With a lovely glass shower door, a shelving unit and hand rail inside the shower, it was definitely bigger than most balcony cabin showers I have been in.

Britannia certainly impressed me as a ship and although I didn’t have enough time to see everything, I feel confident that P& Cruises have definitely added a touch of class, style and sophistication to their fleet that both new and existing guests will love.
