Norwegian Getaway – Ship Review - January 2014

Flavia Gray – 28-01-2014 – Norwegian Cruise LinesGetaway

If you think cruising is for people who are old and boring then THINK AGAIN!!! With 18 decks of wall to wall fun including 27 dining venues, an aqua park with the fastest drop slides at sea, a bowling alley, rock climbing and abseiling walls, ropes course, bouncing bungee trampolines and a miniature golf course , you couldn’t be further from the truth with Norwegian Cruise Line’s newest addition to the fleet, Norwegian Getaway. If that doesn’t satisfy the ‘thrill seeking adventurer’ in you, why not walk ‘The Plank’, which is literally a plank extending almost two and a half metres over the side of the ship up on deck 17!!!

For those of you who like to take things a bit slower, while other members of the family are working off all that energy, try the luxurious Mandara Spa. With it’s hydrotherapy pool, sauna, steam room, thermal beds and industry first ‘salt rooms’ at sea, based on the salt caves in Eastern Europe known for their therapeutic properties, you will feel a million dollars when you emerge rested, relaxed and rejuvenated.

Don’t want to do the same thing night after night? No problem. With the Svedka Ice Bar serving cocktails at a cool minus 8 degrees and the tables, chairs and glasses made of ice, this is the perfect way to start an evening just “chilling out”. On other nights you can have a beer and a game of pool or darts in Irish Pub O’Sheehans, named after Norwegian’s CEO Kevin Sheehan, or a glass or two of bubbles in the Champagne Bar, whatever suits your taste buds and mood you are bound to find something you like in one of the 22 bars and lounges. My favourite has to be the Grammy’s Experience. A cool venue where you can see outfits worn by the likes of Whitney Houston, The Jackson Five and Rhianna, and watch evening performances by past Grammy nominees.

Fancy a pre or post dinner show? Head to the theatre for not one, but two Broadway shows. Legally Blonde proves you can be blonde and clever AND have fun, whilst Burn the Floor gets your heart racing with its hot and steamy latin ballroom show.

The staterooms provide a range of accommodation from single inside cabins to balconies, family suites to the luxury of The Haven Suites with their own key card access area. Celebrities spotted soaking up the sun on this ultra luxurious and secluded part of the ship include Oprah Winfrey and Donny and Marie Osmond.

So after a lovely overnight stay onboard this incredible ship, we bid her farewell as she sets sail for her homeport of Miami. Here she will be sailing 7 night Eastern Caribbean itineraries visiting St Maarten, St Thomas and the Bahamas.
