Marco Polo 29th April - 2nd May 2010

We arrived early as we were joining the ship visit first, dropped our bags off at the terminal and then drove to the long term car park, which is some way from the terminal. As the coach shuttle hadn't started for passengers we had to walk back to the terminal.
Although we didn't experience the passenger check-in procedure, all comments we heard onboard were favourable.
During the ship visit we saw lots of different cabin grades, and in general they were all of a good size, although some were odd shapes. For instance we had a category 6 outside cabin, which was of an adequate size. However, there was a chair in case it was needed, but there wasn't anywhere to actually put it. This meant it got moved around the cabin, depending on what we were doing.
We heard several good comments onboard about the cabin sizes, and particularly about the ample drawer and hanging space available.
Overall I thought the standard of food was very good.
Everyone seemed to be more than happy with the range, quality and price of everything in the bars. It is good that prices are not only in sterling, but are comparable with prices at home.
Service was always quick and efficient
The quality of the shows was something that I heard lots of good comments about, and no bad comments. You had to get there early if you wanted a seat near the front, as the shows were very popular.
Scott's Bar also seemed very popular for the quizzes and game shows later on in the evenings as well.
A couple of people mentioned the fact that there was no casino, but they both seemed to think that this was a plus point.
Smokers were well catered for onboard, without upsetting the non smokers
CLEANLINESS AND HYGIENE
The staff at the restaurants were very good at ensuring passengers used the hand gel before entering the restaurants.
We went on one of the excursions and found it to be very good value. Everyone we spoke to appeared to feel the same, as we only heard good comments about them.
Overall I found that people on their first cruise were having a fantastic time, and would have no worries about doing another cruise.
With regard to gratuities a couple of people mentioned the change from being included last year, to be charged to their onboard accounts this year, but they didn't seem to have a problem with it.
Having taken all of the above into account we still had a very enjoyable cruise, and would have no worries about cruising on Marco Polo again.
