P&O Cruises reveal details of Iona’s maiden season - September 2018

GoCruise – 04/09/18 - P&O Cruises

Iona is set to become the largest vessel to ever sail for the P&O Cruises fleet when she launches in two years’ time. The concept of the vessel has revolved around the scenery passenger can admire throughout the duration of their travels, with plenty of glass windows offering the chance to look to sea or land and enable light in. The glass-covered SkyDome entertainment venue will offer the perfect place to enjoy a drink or two during the day, while the evenings will see a retractable stage appear and transform the venue into a dazzling spectacle. There will also be a three-tiered atrium with a grand staircase and plenty of outdoor dining options available on board.

With the emphasis of the vessel firmly placed upon the surrounding scenery, there are few better places to head to than the Norwegian fjords. This is where Iona will be based during her maiden season between May to September 2020. Departing out of Southampton, Iona will take passengers to a range of ports throughout the region including Stavanger, Olden, Geiranger, Bergen and Alesund. It has been confirmed this week that these sailings will be available on general sale from 12th September 2018.

She will also pave the way in helping to protect the environment, with plans in place to ensure the vessel causes as little disruption as possible to the natural surroundings. Utilising liquefied natural gas as opposed to conventional forms of fuel will lead to far fewer emissions being emitted into the atmosphere. It works by cooling a mixture of gasses into liquid form and, in the process, removing harmful ingredients including carbon dioxide and mercury.

Also announced early this week were details of itineraries for the other vessels in the P&O Cruises fleet, with itineraries focussing on regions including the Mediterranean, Norway and Iceland, North America, Canada and the British Isles. Highlights will include a 30-night sailing to Canada and North America aboard Arcadia in September 2020, which will include an overnight call in Boston and three full nights in New York. Arcadia will also offer a Northern Lights sailing in October 2020 and a sailing to Iceland aboard Aurora, offering an overnight call in the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik.
