Although not defined as a continent in its own right, the region between South America and the USA is often referred to as Central America. As well as the countries that connect the two landmasses together, such as Mexico, Nicaragua and Costa Rica, the islands lying in the Caribbean Sea can also be classed as being part of the region. In terms of culture and customs, the countries in this area tend to be similar to those in South America. The majority of them speak Spanish and many of the musical and culinary influences transcend both regions.
As for the Caribbean Islands, these are very diverse and attract visitors for all kinds of reasons. Known as places for relaxation, there is also a high level of extreme activities available, including waterfall climbing, zip lining and caving. The largest of these islands, Cuba, is a destination that many will have on their ultimate travel list. It receives many tourists from Europe, with the UK being second on the list in terms of which nations people are travelling from.
One thing that is common across mainland Central America and the Caribbean islands is the abundance of fantastic beaches. With golden sands and palm trees that sway gently in the breeze, it’s easy to picture yourself here. But there’s no need to imagine; our authentic Central America tours will allow you to discover all corners of this beautiful region.
